The University of Luxembourg is seeking to appoint a new Chair in Digital Financial Services. The goal of this Chair is to demystify digital technology and rethink connections across regulators, industries and users.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding internationally recognised researcher in the field of data (computer science/engineering), risk, innovation and/or financial services. In addition to scientific standing, s/he will be motivated by the inter-disciplinary approach of this Chair and have the ability to engage credibly and creatively with both academic and non-academic stakeholders, and to create socio-economic impact from research findings. Research should focus on the development and use of innovative digital technologies which can impact financial market regulation and policy. Research activities should also be technical in nature building on the characteristics of FinTech and addressing RegTech or compliance through IT solutions thereby advancing the technological transformation of financial services regulation.

This Chair will be supported by PayPal and by the PEARL programme of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) which aims at recruiting outstanding scientists in strategically important areas to develop and strengthen Luxembourg’s national research priorities. The Chair will enjoy a start-up package for five years with a financial contribution of approximately €5 million excluding overheads. Research should focus on the development and use of innovative digital technologies which can impact financial market regulation and policy. The Chair will play a pivotal role in linking technical research and developments with legal and regulatory innovations and their financial aspects, whilst also reaching out to key stakeholders in government (ministries, regulators, government-run start-up incubators) and to companies in the financial service sector.
